Wall of Wonders

I always wanted to make a gorgeous Home Decorating Magazine worthy wall collage. Here were some of my inspirations.

So for the past year, I have been gathering knick-knacks, frames, pictures, fabrics, all with the idea that one day, I will make a similar collage. I finally got around to it last week and here is my new wall!

It makes me really happy to look at it. I painted below on the left off another painting I had seen on Pinterest as well. The pink lady picture below to the right is something I found at a Goodwill. It was dirty and pale, and I spruced up the painting with my own acrylics. The green plate below I bought for a dollar from Boomerangs, a great thrift store. I used heavy duty double stick tape adhere a ring I made out or wire. The ring now sits on and nail and is incredibly sturdy. I could have hung the plate with one of those special plate hangers, but I didn't like the idea of having those prongs show and distract from the beauty of the plate.

The rest I made from using fabric backgrounds, fashion magazine cuttings, pretty paper from Blicks, and brightly colored Krylon spray paint. The piece that I am more proud of is the cutting board I painted. I took the design from another Anthropologie plate. I used regular acrylics and varnished it with clear glaze.

One of the things that I found really made the collage look good, is the placement. When I first laid everything out, I had the larger painting toward the middle, and the smaller pieces around the large piece. It looked okay when I had laid it out on the floor, but when I put it up, it looked horribly tacky. My roommate was the one that suggested I move the larger piece toward the outside. Once I did this, it was so very easy to make it look nice. It was harmonious without being symmetrical, and visually interesting without being utterly askew. I now walk into my living room/craft area with happiness. :-) Enjoy.
